Most of the Ayurvedic Medicines are in the form of crude extracts which are a mixture of several ingredients. To assess the quality of the product,each ingredient should have adequate standardization information. So quality Standards in utmost important in medicinal plans. Considering this scenario, CCRAS has taken the initiative for the development of the quality Standard monographs of selected crude drugs which are reflected in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India (AFI) and fir which as such Pharmacopoeial standards are and available in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India (API) These quality standard generated by the Council could be well utilised by the stakeholders as advisory. In particular , this Volume-1 Comprises of quality standards of selected twenty-two crude drugs in order to establish the standardized monographs comprising of their botanical source, synonyms , geographical source, plant photographs in natural habitat & its part used herbarium sheet, pharmacognostical studies, physicochemical analysis ,high performance thin- layer chromatographic profiling, chemical constituents, properties & uses, Ayurvedic formulations, adulterants & substitutes etc. This Monograph would certainly act as reference material for Scientists and pharmaceutical industries and would lead to wider acceptance of the selected medicinal plants by its quality assessment
